One incredibly important piece of technology in the 1970s was Letraset. Originally manufactured in 1959, Letraset was an extensive, wet process that allowed sheets of lettering to be transferred. Letraset became a household name in 1961 when this process was simplified into a transferable lettering system that was dry. This was revolutionary for typography as it allowed both amateurs and professionals to create affordable and professional-looking work using an extensive range of available typefaces (Action Transfers, n.d).
The PhotoTypositor was manufactured by Visual Graphics Corporation and had the capability of allowing the user to position each letter manually, therefore being able to have full control over kerning. This machine was popular in the 70s and 80s and was found in many print shops since it had further abilities to easily change text size and font.
The main point of significance regarding these machines is that at the time, they offered users more freedom and creativity than ever before.
